Medicinal plants are growing all around you. Do you know how to find them? Do you know how to work with them to heal yourself and your loved ones? Come get back to the basics.
This day-long workshop is for those wanting an introduction to the foundational knowledge of herbalism. We will cover a brief history of herbalism, including the herbal lineages that inspire many of the herbal practices in Southern Appalachia. Then we will spend time in the field, understanding the basics of botany, plant identification, and best harvesting practices.
The second part of class will be an introduction to 4 of the most utilized extraction methods for medicine making. Participants will get hands-on experience in preparing a tincture, an infused oil, an herbal vinegar, and 2 types of medicinal teas.
Everyone will go home with medicinal preparations they made in class, as well as an understanding of what to do next if you hope to go deeper on the path of herbalism.
This class is appropriate for both beginners and folks with some experience who want to go a little deeper, fill in a few gaps, or synthesize what they already know.
